"I was Defiled By Four Men, Because of 100 Shillings, I borrowed to Buy Sanitary Pads" Jane Atieno.

 It is true that there are people who have painful sores but hide them with a smiling face. There are people who have gone through a lot in this life, they just lack a platform to tell the stories or fear to tell the stories due to stigmatisation. Yesterday on 21st September, Jane Atieno via the presenter Ali youtube channel, came out openly to tell her story and how a loan of 100 Shillings ruined her life completely.




Jane who come from a humble background said that their problems begun when their father who was their bread winner died. This forced them to relocate to Soweto area in Eastlands. Despite paying a rent of 2000, her mother couldn't still afford it because she was suffering from cancer.


This made her and her siblings to start grinding and for her she decided to be a drug dealer. The business wasn't paying so she just decided to abuse the drugs by herself. One day she lacked money to buy sanitary pads, and she decided to borrow it from his male friend, who gave it to her and ordered her to return it. The second month the same situation happened and she also went to that boy, who gave her and commanded her to return it, now the debt was100 shillings.


Jane couldn't afford to pay that amount of money, so the boy decided to take advantage of that, and one day while she was relaxing at the play ground, the boy called her into his house and started to demand for his money. He was together with his three friends. When Jane said that she doesn't have money, they decided to gang rape her, and remember she was only 13 years old. The act led to her getting pregnant and this made her life more difficult.


The poverty conditions at their home worsened, her siblings were against her, and her mother relocated and went back to upcountry. Jane was left alone to hustle for her child, she was forced to was clothes for people and collect garbage so that to pay the bills.


After managing to rent a 1500 house, those for men, again traced her, the first act was in 2005,and now this second act was in 2010,they also gang raped her, and left her with knife injuries. She got pregnant again for the second child. Now her life turned to hell because she was now a mother of two, with no job and also with wounds in the stomach. Jane has been struggling and she is still struggling from 2010 till now.

Her children are big one is 15 and the other 11.she can't afford to pay school fees for them and things are just tough. She has pleaded with well wishers to help her and she will be thankful.
